As a Christian, how do I know the Will of God concerning every step of life that I take. There are several ways of discerning the Will of God. Some are objective, while others are subjective. The study will be limited to only the objective ways of discerning God’s will
Why should we desire to do God’s Will? (Romans 12:2)
· In obedience to God’s Will, Christ gave Himself for us to deliver us from this evil age (Galatians 1:4)
· We can only please God when we know His Will (Colossians 1:9-10)
· We will know how to live for Him (Colossians 1:9-10)
· Obedience to God’s Will shows our maturity as believers (Colossians 4:12)
· It is wisdom to know what is the Will of God (Ephesians 5:10-17)
What is the Will of God for Believers
· That everyone is saved (2 Peter 3:9)
· That every believer lives a sanctified life and grow in grace (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8)
· That believers give thanks to God in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
· That we study His Word (2 Timothy 3:14-17)
· To suffer for doing good than evil (1 Peter 3:17; 4:19)
· Doing Good to silence the foolish (1 Peter 2:15)
How do we get the Will of God from Scripture?
· Approach the Scripture passage prayerfully & meditatively
· Do not push your own meaning into the verses
· Establish the context of the passage and ask questions
· What is the cultural/historical context of this passage
o Who is speaking?
o To whom is he speaking to?
o Why did he say it?
o What was his original intent?
o What is the relevance of this passage to the 21st century Christian?
What are the Steps for Divine Guidance?
· Commit the Decision to God
· Consult the Scripture
· Counsel of the Experienced
· Circumstances
· Conviction
· Contemplation
How do we follow God’s Will?
· We are led one step at a time (Psalm 37:23)
· Move even if you don’t have the full picture (Psalm 119:105)
Benefits of doing God’s Will
· We are able to offer our spiritual acts of Worship (Romans 12:2)
· We receive the promise (Hebrews 10:36)
